This May has seen lots of new updates appear for social media platforms, allowing businesses to take advantage of new features to maximise their reach and engagement.

Let’s take a look at the latest news…

Community Posts Available For All Channels

YouTube has made community posts available for all YouTube channels, allowing even smaller creators to have interactions with their audiences more directly.

Initially posts were only available for channels with over 1,000 subscribers, but have now given all users the opportunity to take advantage of the feature in the hopes it will help creators be able to build their presence on the site.
Twitter Blue Videos

Subscribers to Twitter Blue will now be able to upload videos that last for up to 2 hours. Free users are limited to just 2 minutes, and as only 650k users have signed up to the platform, it’s hoped that expanding the features of Twitter Blue will encourage more people to pay for a subscription.

The 2 hour uploads are available on the desktop version of the app and Twitter for IOS. Android Twitter Blue subscribers are however limited to just 10 minute uploads.

Twitter’ owner Elon Musk has spoken about how Twitter could become the platform to compete with YouTube, and have shows specifically curated for the platform posted via Twitter Blue, and if the new update is anything to go by, we could see this start happening soon.

YouTube Shorts Adverts

YouTube have added a new way for advertisers to place ads between shorts. The Shorts feature has now been added to Video Reach Campaigns, that uses AI to improve reach.

Video Reach Campaigns use AI to improve the placement of the Ad to maximise its reach and efficiency.

Google have said of the new update: ‘With this update to Video Reach campaigns, you simply upload a 60-second (or shorter) vertical video along with your other assets. If you’d prefer to use existing horizontal creative, YouTube’s campaign setup tools include AI-powered features that automatically adapt and optimize your videos for the vertical screen.”

New Lead Generation Tools On Facebook

Meta have announced new features of Lead Generation Ads on Facebook. First of all, discount codes in-stream will be automatically applied at checkout. Facebook will also notify users who went through to checkout but didn’t complete their purchase that the deal is still running.

Within Facebooks In-App browser, brands will be able to overlay instant forms when a link is clicked through Facebook, simplifying the process of gathering information.

Businesses can now also add forms as a CTA via their Facebook business pages, which when completed, will be sent privately to the business page via Messenger.

Lead Ads will now have a question flow feature, which automatically updates when people respond.

These new updates are currently being rolled out in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and India before expanding worldwide.

Gmail Brand Verification

Google have introduced checkmarks for brands on Gmail. Businesses who have been approved for Google’s verification service will now receive blue checkmarks on emails they send to users.

These new Gmail checkmarks are available to Google Workspace customers, including personal Google Accounts, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers.

TikTok To Expand Creativity Programme

TikTok has expanded its creativity programme, allowing top creators to receive direct funding.

First launched in February, the Creativity Programme was introduced to help with monetization opportunities, and now is available to all users who meet the threshold. This is currently being rolled out in the US, before expanding to the rest of the world.

On the new updates to the programme, TikTok said: “Beginning May 3, 2023, US creators with at least 10K followers and 100K authentic video views in the last 30 days are eligible to join the Creativity Program Beta. The Creativity Program Beta is in its early stages, and we’re continuously exploring ways to improve the experience for our creator community and the way creators are rewarded.”
